Sohar Power Co , which operates the largest electricity generation and water desalination plant in Oman, said on Sunday that a technical problem had cut its power production capacity. One of its generating units tripped, causing damage to the machinery, the company said without giving details of the damage or reduction in capacity. Sohar Power is trying to restore the unit to service as quickly as possible but the incident will affect its financial performance this year, it said, adding that water production had not been affected. The natural gas-fired power plant has an annual capacity of 585 megawatts, according to its website. (Muscat Daily)
