Saudi Arabia, Egypt to complete power grid link in 2017, Electricity Minister says
Egypt and Saudi Arabia will complete the electricity interconnection project in 2017, Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker said Monday. The project will help exchange energy in peak hours, to a maximum of 3,000 MW, and help export surpluses in electricity. So far, the two countries have accomplished c14,000 MW in the project, which primarily aims to boost the electricity-generating capacity, Shaker said. A bilateral agreement was signed in 2013 worth SAR6bn to connect the two countries’ electricity grids. Egypt Parliament approved on Monday a KWD30mn loan agreement with the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development dedicated for the project that was signed on 22 November 2015. (Amwal Al Ghad)
