UAE issues law to tax tobacco and soft drinks

The UAE has issued a new law that imposes taxes on tobacco products, energy drinks and soft drinks to boost revenue and help offset the impact of low oil prices. Implementation is set for the fourth quarter of this year The President of the UAE approved the tax decree on Monday. According to local newspaper tobacco and energy drinks will be taxed at 100% while soft drinks will be taxed at 50%. The move follows KSA imposition of the tax in June.
