UAE deposit to be received within days; inflows may rise to USD5 billion
The UAE will place its pledged USD2 billion deposit at the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) within days, according to Al Masry Al Youm. The tenor of the deposit will be at least a year and will carry an interest rate of 1.0-1.5%, the source added. Meanwhile, Al Ahram reported that total inflows into the CBE will be USD5 billion within the next few days, including the UAE deposit. The inflows would come as preliminary agreements with the Saudi Fund for Development of around USD8 billion will be activated, sources told the state-owned newspaper. News about such inflows have resulted in receding activity in the parallel market with the USD-EGP appreciating to EGP10.40 by Monday from EGP10.75, according to local press.
