Trade Minister forms committee to implement local content requirements for domestic auto assemblers
Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Kabil formed a committee for implementing local content requirements for domestic auto assemblers and manufacturers. The committee, which includes members from the Industrial Development Authority, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and the Trade and Industry Ministry will be in charge of drafting the executive regulations to the Ministry’s directive from last month requiring that 46% of the components of domestically assembled cars be sourced locally. It will also oversee the creation of a comprehensive database of automotive manufacturers and component producers in Egypt.
