A senior Egyptian military official was shot dead on Saturday outside his home on the outskirts of Cairo, security sources and his wife said Gunmen opened fire on Brigadier General Adel Rajaaie, an armoured division commander who had served in troubled northern Sinai, as he left his home in Obour city to go to work, his wife told Reuters. A newly-emerged militant group calling itself Louwaa el Thawra, or the Revolution Brigade, claimed responsibility for the attack on a Twitter account that was suspended shortly after the claim. Rajaaie, 52, is the most senior state official to die at the hands of militants in recent years. (Reuters)
