Peugeot and Renault looking to invest in car assembly plants in Egypt
French car manufacturer Peugeot Citroen plans to build a car assembly plant in Egypt, which will also act as an export hub to regional markets, particularly Africa, said Industry and Trade Minister Tarek Kabil in a meeting with Peugeot’s CEO for Africa and the Middle East. The meeting also reviewed the French company's interest to contract Egyptian companies to build components for its assembly plants worldwide. Meanwhile, another French car maker Renault has also expressed interest in building a car assembly factory in Egypt. Both car manufacturers’ decision to increase investments in Egypt is contingent upon the incentives and benefits to be laid out in the impending automotive directive by the Egyptian government, which aims to attract foreign investments in the automotive industry.
