Parliamentary committee proposes higher maximum wage limit
The Parliament’s Budget and Planning committee proposed raising the maximum wage limit for employees to go in hand with the recent increases in the minimum wage, which are set to be implemented in the upcoming FY19/20. The committee announced that before increasing the minimum wage from EGP1,200, the maximum wage limit stood at EGP35,000, almost 35x the minimum wage amount, which explains the need to increase the maximum wage limit. This comes as the wage bill in the FY19/20 draft budget is set to increase to EGP301.1bn, against EGP270bn in the budget for FY18/19.
