Parliament puts automotive directive discussions on hold
The House of Representatives’ Industry Committee has decided to postpone discussions on the automotive directive indefinitely, after it had rejected some of the law’s clauses last month, including a 0.5% tax on profits for an industry development fund. According to sources, the committee has agreed not to rush into issuing the law pending further studies and consultations. Workers in the automotive market were distressed by this delay, which they believe will bear negatively on the sector. A meeting with representatives of car manufacturers is scheduled to take place end of next week to discuss their views on the suggested amendments of the law. (Al Borsa)
