Parliament delays final vote on Civil Service Act until after summer recess
Parliament has decided to postpone the final vote on the Civil Service Act until after it reconvenes in October. The decision came after failing to reach the minimum vote for the second time in a week as many MPs were absent. The government has a full year to implement the law once it passes, as arrangements have to be made to pay civil servants the 7% annual raise, to be effective retroactively. The executive regulations still need to be passed, and hiring temporary employees has been suspended since June pending passage of the law, the head of the Central Authority For Organization and Administration Mohamed Gamil said.
