Parliament approved the appointment of General Mohamed Mohamed Ali El- Sheikh as Minister of Supply. The Ministry is in charge of Egypt’s food programme and the main state grain buyer, the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC). El-Sheikh was the head of the Public Services division at the Armed Forces, according to MP. The new appointment follows the resignation of Khaled Hanafi on 25 August amidst corruption probe into whether millions of dollars intended to subsidise farmers were used to purchase wheat that did not exist.
