A House of Representative Budget Committee MP posted on Twitter photos of a summary copy of the proposed budget by the Cabinet. The figures, confirming ones released last week by Reuters, show total subsidy spending falling 3.8% to EGP214bn (USD12.4bn). Fuel and electricity subsidies are set to fall 19% and 47%, respectively. However, food subsidies were shown to grow 36.6% to EGP86bn (USD4.9bn). Additionally, export subsidies will see spending increase by 54% to EGP4bn (USD0.22bn). On the other hand, social welfare spending will fall 0.5% to EGP298.94bn (USD16.9bn), while education and healthcare spending will grow 12.5% to EGP62bn (USD3.5bn) and 8% to 115.6bn (USD6.5bn), respectively. The leaked document also indicated that debt service will jump to 42% Y-o-Y to EGP541bn (USD31bn).
