Mobile operators to charge VAT on Telecom Egypt for national roaming service

Mobile network operators (MNOs) have decided to charge the value-added tax (VAT) on Telecom Egypt (TE) [ETEL.CA] for the voice service which will be provided through their respective networks. As per the law, operators are required to pay a 13% VAT, in addition to an 8% non-essential service tax. MNOs offered several prices to TE as part of the national roaming agreement, which will allow the latter to provide voice services to its mobile subscribers. TE is expected to purchase EGP2bn worth of voice minutes from MNOs, which will get a 10% margin on national roaming revenues, according to high-ranking sources at the three MNOs.
