Mobile Operators petition NTRA’s cap on SIM card sales
Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt [OREG.CA], and Etisalat Egypt will meet this week with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to discuss its decision to cap monthly SIM card sales to 50 per distributor, according to Al Borsa. These operators hope to alter the limit to c200-300 SIM cards per distributor, while actual sales range between c400-600 SIM cards per distributor. The operators have received a number of complaints from distributors regarding the decision. On a related note, the House of Representatives is investigating the decision and summoned NTRA head, Mostafa Abd Elwahed, to justify it, according to Al Mal.
