Mobile operators negotiating with telecom regulator to pay 100% of 4G licence cost in EGP; Ministry of Communications studying the impact of fifth operator introduction
The three mobile network operators (MNOs) are in negotiations with the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to pay the full 4G licence cost in EGP. MNOs are struggling to find the required FX liquidity, according to high-ranking sources at one of the MNOs. NTRA is currently in process of discussing the technical aspects of the 4G licence with the operators, while discussions on the financial details should begin next week. In other news, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) is studying the impact of introducing a fifth operator in the market if one of the MNOs backed off from acquiring the 4G licence. China had shown interest in acquiring the 4G licence. (Al Mal, Al Borsa)
