Ministry of Communications to offer 4G licence to international operators if local operators failed to accept the terms before 22 September
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) will offer the 4G licence to international operators in a bid, if the local mobile network operators (MNOs) failed to accept the 4G licence payment and technical terms by the previously-announced deadline, 22 September, according to Communications Minister, Yasser Al Kady. Telecom Egypt (TE) [ETEL.CA] expressed interest in acquiring any 4G spectrum not taken by MNOs, Al Kady added. The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) will offer the entire cost of the 4G licence in USD to international operators if they bid. Zain Group [ZAIN.KW], Saudi Telecom Company (STC) [7010.SE] and Lebara (a mobile virtual network operator) have all expressed interest in acquiring the 4G licence in Egypt.
