Kuwait is planning to build two tourism projects near its Northern border at a cost of c.KWD600mn (USD1.98bn), Al-Nahar newspaper reported on Thursday. The two projects are located in Al-Salmi and Al-Abdali towns in the Northern Al-Jahra governorate and will have an area of 60,000 square metres each. The two projects have been prepared by the Supreme Planning Council and will be presented to local and regional companies with experience in this field. The projects are part of the country’s plans to develop its tourism sector to boost non-oil revenue and are expected to generate at least KWD10mn (USD33mn) every year. Sources said that there are studies planned for other tourism, sports and amusement projects in the country, especially in the North, in line with the government plan to increase number of tourists to at least 500,000 in 2024 from nearly 340,000 in 2015.
