KLM to suspend flights to Cairo starting January amidst foreign currency problems
KLM Airlines is planning to suspend flights to Cairo beginning January on Egypt’s foreign currency problems, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. The EGP devaluation and the Central Bank of Egypt’s (CBE) decision to impose restrictions on the transfer of foreign currency abroad have a negative impact on the company’s results, according to the statement. The airline had told reporters previously in February that it was unable to repatriate any earnings for months. Air France–KLM, the joint airline group, will maintain its presence in Cairo, following the suspension, the statement added. (Reuters)
