IMAX announces plans to produce films in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s General Culture Authority and the IMAX Corporation announced Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival their plans to develop IMAX-format films to be produced in Saudi Arabia. In addition, IMAX intends to build 20-30 theatres in Saudi Arabia during the coming years. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond stated that the theatre chain is planning to co-produce documentaries and international blockbusters in the Kingdom. He added that IMAX intends to hire as much Saudi Arabian talent as possible on its projects in the country, as its intention is to work with the General Culture Authority to develop the landscape from the bottom up.
