House of Representatives suggests 8% VAT on mobile services
The House of Representatives is suggesting the imposition of an 8% value-added tax (VAT) on mobile phone services, according to sources in the telecom industry. It is still not clear whether the 8% VAT would replace the current 15% sales tax or top it. If the latter scenario occurs, the consumer would bear a total tax rate of 23%. ADSL services, on the other hand, would be exempted from the VAT for a year starting the implementation date. (Al Mal)
