Government said to discuss more subsidy cuts with IMF delegation

The government is reportedly planning to discuss more subsidy cuts with the IMF delegation currently visiting to review progress on the economic reform programme. Measures include further fuel, electricity and subsidised food prices hikes. There are divisions within the government regarding fuel price hike, given its repercussions on food prices, the source said. The delegation will meet a number of ministries and will submit a report to the official IMF review mission, which is due to visit Egypt next month ahead of disbursement of the second loan tranche. Ministries include Finance, Petroleum, Electricity, and Social Solidarity. (Al Shorouk)
