Egypt said to negotiate USD2bn deposit from Saudi Arabia, UAE ahead of EGP floatation
Egypt is reportedly negotiating with Saudi Arabia and the UAE to receive deposits worth USD2bn within the coming four weeks, according to a government official. The deal aims to avail foreign currency in preparation for EGP devaluation, the source said, adding that this would be followed by the first tranche of the IMF loan towards year-end. Other sources stated that the timing of financial Support from the GCC is not determined, but the government aims to expedite the inflow of funds in order to start the economic reform programme.
