EETC to sign power purchase agreements with eight companies under phase one of the feed-in tariff scheme
Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) is set to sign Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with eight companies within ten days under the feed-in tariff scheme for solar energy, which managed to secure the financing for the projects, as requested. The purchase agreements were reviewed and approved by the state council, according to EETC sources speaking to Al Borsa. According to the scheme’s regulations, in the case of conflict, arbitration will take place in The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration "CRCICA". Additionally, the solar energy companies are required to source 85% of the projects funding in foreign currency, and the remaining 15% in EGP. Moreover, the Ministry of Electricity had set 21 October as a deadline for the 136 qualifying companies and consortiums, to respond their status to the Ministry, on whether they will : i) sign a purchase power agreement, if they had managed to secure the financing; ii) participate in phase two of the projects; or iii) withdraw from the scheme.
