Central Bank survey shows improved credit appetite in 1Q16
The Central Bank of UAE issued the 1Q16 credit survey. It shows that demand for credit from businesses improved during the quarter relative to 4Q15. The survey highlighted increased appetite across emirates and in particular Abu Dhabi. Credit demand from GREs and non-residents was subdued. Demand for personal lending also showed an improvement with Dubai showing the strongest growth. Survey respondents expect further strengthening in credit demand for credit in 2Q16 in both business and personal lending. The central bank said that the ongoing tightening credit conditions for business loans suggested reduced willingness to extend business loans among financial institutions, partially reflecting the negative impact of lower oil prices.
