Australia post buys 4.5% stake in Aramex for AUD100mn
Australia post is reported to have bought 4.5% of Aramex for c.AUD100mn or AED278mn, implying a price per share of AED4.2. Earlier this year, Aramex announced it will form a JV (60%-owned by Aramex) with Australia Post to buy the latter’s global e-commerce subsidiary StarTrack. Additionally, Aramex will sell its Australia-based e-commerce company Mail Call (100%-owned) to StarTrack and inject the proceeds into the new JV. Management expects this traction to take place in 3Q16 and expand its e-commerce exposure in new markets.
