Adeptio acquisition of Americana falls through on pricing, complications with franchise rights transfer
Adeptio, the UAE-based consortium led by Mohamed Al Abbar, has failed to reach an agreement on pricing for an acquisition of a majority stake in Kuwait Food Company (Americana) [FOOD.KK]. Negotiations have been cancelled, according to a disclosure by Al Khair National for Stocks and Real Estate, Americana's largest shareholder (67% stake). There were also complications with the transfer of some franchise rights; Americana operates restaurant franchises in the region such as KFC, TGI Friday’s and Pizza Hut. The deal, had it gone through was estimated to be worth cUSD3.5-4.0bn. (Bloomberg, Mubasher)
