An OMR60mn seawater desalination project will be constructed in Salalah, and is expected to be operational by 2020, according to authorities. ACWA Power holds a 50.1% stake in the project, while Veolia Middle East has 35% and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding has 14.9%. The plant will have a production capacity of 113,650 cubic metres per day, equivalent to 25mn gallons per day. The plant is expected to operate commercially by 2020. Under the terms of the agreement, OPWP will have the right to purchase desalinated water produced from the plant during the concession period set for 20 years.
