19 investors notify Electricity Ministry of stalled funding for renewable energy projects
19 global and local investors have notified the Ministry of Electricity that they are unable to finance their renewable energy projects with a total capacity of more than 900 MW and worth of EGP1.5bn. This is following the withdrawal of international funding agencies after the government's added term in contracts for local instead of international arbitration. Sources added that it is unknown what will happen with the EGP800mn, which were paid to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to link the projects to the national grid projects and cover other costs. In August 2014, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy had launched bids for renewable energy projects with a capacity of 4000MW to 136 local international investors under the feed-in tariff programme and with the government purchasing generated energy at 102pt per kilowatt of solar energy and 83pt per kilowatt of wind energy.
