Vestas to start building 250-MW wind farm in December 2016
Danish wind turbine manufacturer, Vestas, is expected to start building the first 250-MW wind farm (for EUR250mn) in December 2016, as part of its five-year project to build multiple wind farms with a combined capacity of 2.2 GW in Egypt. Earlier this year, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Electricity Ministry to establish the project, which is expected to cost EUR2.2bn of investments and will be carried out on an EPC+Finance basis. The project is planned for both the East and West Nile areas, requiring an area of 1,600 sqkm and 12 months to conduct wind speed and topographical studies. On a separate note, Vestas is looking to create a joint venture with the New and Renewable Energy authority to manage and maintain the wind farms. (Al Borsa)
