Unemployment edges up to 12.6% in 3Q16 from 12.5% in 2Q16
Egypt’s unemployment rate edged up to 12.6% in 3Q16 from 12.5% in 2Q16, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). Male unemployment edged up to 8.7% in 3Q16 from 8.5% in 2Q16, while female unemployment increased to 25.9% from 25.6% previously. 88.1% of the unemployed are youth (aging between 15 and 29 year), while 88.4% of the unemployed have intermediate or higher education degrees. The total labour force grew 2.9% Y-o-Y and 1.0% Q-o-Q to 28.8mn in 3Q16. (CAPMAS)
