Tronox-Tasnee’s Cristal deal faces opposition from European Commission
Tronox announced that the European Commission has expressed opposition to the proposed USD1.7bn Cristal acquisition. The statement of objection released by the European Commission is the outcome of a preliminary assessment and does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation and/or the need to offer any remedy, according to a source at Tronox. According to the company, management has to respond to the commission’s objections by early April. Finally, Tronox’s CEO stated that the company is still discussing the matter with the commission and that an appropriate resolution could be reached.
