Telecom regulator prefers renegotiating 4G licence terms with mobile operators
The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NYTA) is more inclined to renegotiate the 4G licence terms with the mobile network operators (MNOs) than to offer the spectrum to Telecom Egypt (TE) [ETEL.CA] or in an international tender, according to unnamed source. MNO officials stated that offering the unwanted spectrum to TE would threaten telecom investments in Egypt. MNOs have the right to bid for the combined 4G spectrum (25 MHz) prior to offering it to TE, the officials added. NTRA officials are set to convene today to announce the fate of the unwanted 4G spectrum.
