Telecom Egypt reconciles with competition authority and agrees to pay 1% of bit stream revenues

Telecom Egypt (TE) [ETEL.CA] has reconciled with the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) over anti-competitive practices and has agreed to pay a fine of a maximum of 1% of revenues from the fibre-optic cable network (bit stream revenues). TE will cooperate with ECA to allow fair competition in offering fixed-line ADSL services in Egypt. ECA had accused TE of anti-competitive practices during the upgrading of its copper cable network to fibre-optic cables which resulted in service outage for the other internet service providers (ISPs).
