Egypt and Saudi Arabia are expected to sign contracts for their USD1.6bn electricity interconnection project in two months, Youm7 reported, citing Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker as saying. The Minister said a transmission line will be constructed with a capacity of 500KV, and will be upgraded to 1,200KV. Upon completion, a transmission line will stretch 1,300 kilometres to exchange up to 3GW of electricity. The project is set to be operational by 2021.
