Saudi Arabia to delay implementation of tax on tobacco and carbonated soft drinks
Saudi Arabia will reportedly delay the implementation of the proposed tax on soft drinks (50%), tobacco products (100%) and energy drinks (100%), which was initially planned to be implemented in April 2017. According to a local newspaper, the delay in implementation is to grant various authorities sufficient time to complete the regulatory approval procedures and issue a detailed draft of the law. The tax is now expected to be implemented in 2Q17, with the value-added tax to be applied in 1Q18.
