Saudi Arabia replaces planned escort fees with 2% hike in residence fees
Saudi Arabia reportedly decided to scrap fees of SAR100/month on each escort of expatriate workers in the private sector, to be paid annually on residence licence issuance or renewal starting July 2017. The plan was to double it in 2018, raise it to SAR300/month in July 2019 and SAR400 in July 2020. This has been replaced with a 2% hike in residence fees, the source said, adding that the it will not represent a burden on residence as opposed to the planned one. The decision will be ratified after it is discussed by the Shura Council.
