Saudi Arabia mulls income tax on expats, finance minister says
Saudi Arabia will discuss a plan to impose income tax on foreign workers, in efforts to diversify state's revenue sources away from oil, Minister of Finance said, adding that it has not been approved yet. No tax will be imposed on Saudi nationals or foreign workers’ remittances, he reiterated. The Ministry allocated SAR230mn for the preparation and implementation of a unified income tax, and for income tax on residents, as per the National Transformation Plan. Meanwhile, the Kingdom has approved the VAT of 5% and a selective tax on 'harmful products' such as tobacco, energy drinks and carbonated beverages. (Bloomberg, Reuters, SPA)
