SABIC partners with Italy’s Eni on new natural gas conversion tech
SABIC and Eni signed a joint development agreement to further develop technology for natural gas conversion, according to a statement released by Eni. The natural gas will be converted into synthesis gas, which can be further transformed to high-value fuels and chemicals, such as methanol. This partnership will also include the construction of an industrial demonstration plant that will be based in Eni’s industrial premises. The technology was first developed by Eni and was then coupled with SABIC’s short contact time reactor R&D and the company’s previous knowledge on synthesis gas generation. It is worth mentioning that this technology will result in lowering capex and opex, increasing the energy efficiency, lowering CO2 and widening feedstock flexibility.
