Russia suspends imports of fruits and vegetables starting 22 September, Egypt to send team to Russia by end-September

Russia said on Friday it would temporarily suspend imports of fruit and vegetables from Egypt starting 22 September. The announcement came shortly after Egyptian quarantine inspectors rejected a 60,000-tonne Russian wheat shipment due to finding trace levels of ergot fungus. On Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Trade said that Egypt will send a team to Russia at September-end to discuss the ban. Egypt had reinstated a zero tolerance policy on ergot and applied it retroactively to all outstanding contracts, a move that has infuriated traders who boycotted the state's grain tender on Friday in protest.
