Retailers offer promotions and discounts following EGP appreciation
In response to the recent appreciation of the EGP, retailers have started offering promotions and discounts to consumers, rather than directly reducing selling prices. According to Spinneys, hypermarket chain CEO Mohanad Adly, suppliers will intensify rolling out special offers until more permanent price reductions are official. Atef Jacob, Head of Consumer Protection Agency, said that there are recent talks with food producers to reduce prices. An unnamed representative from a dairy company expects dairy prices to decline 8-10% next month if the EGP continues to appreciate, adding, however, that the decline in prices will not fully be passed on.
