Planning and Budget Committee passes on setting a VAT rate
Parliament’s Planning and Budget Committee voted to send its report on the proposed Value-Added Tax (VAT) bill to the general session without a recommendation on the tax rate, Deputy Finance Minister Amr Al Munair said. The government insisted on its initially suggested 14% tax rate, while members of the committee were sticking to their 12% recommendation. In this case, the fate of the tax rate will be decided by the general session, the final stop for the law before being finally approved by Parliament. (Al Masry Al Youm)
