NTRA studying several options for TE to offer 2G and 3G services
The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) is studying several options for Telecom Egypt (TE) [ETEL.CA] to offer the 2G and 3G services. This will be done through utilising the mobile network operators’ (MNO) networks, taking into consideration fair allocation of subscribers to avoid over-congestion on a specific network. Meanwhile, the MNOs will rent out TE’s infrastructure to offer the 4G service. The MNOs will also be able to offer the fixed-line service virtually through TE’s network. In related news, NTRA is yet to pick a legal consultant to conclude the legal framework of the 4G licence. (Al Borsa, Al Alam Al Youm)
