NMC receives approval for greenfield hospital in Saudi, acquires two hospitals for USD40mn

NMC Health, has announced several expansions in the KSA healthcare market including: i) acquiring regulatory approval for a 220-bed long-term care facility in Jeddah, ii) acquisitions of two hospitals in Najran and Ha’il  for an aggregate consideration of USD40mn, and iii) plans for a greenfield hospital in Al Khobar. NMC had announced that it had concluded all regulatory approval for its 220-bed long-term care facility, Chronic Care Specialty Medical Center (CCSMC), in Jeddah, and the facility initiated operations with 50 beds, and will ramp-up to full capacity by 1H19. The facility is believed to be one of the first greenfield medical facilities in Saudi Arabia to be established by a non-KSA company. Regarding the two acquisitions, NMC has reached agreements to acquire a multi-specialty hospital in each of the northwestern and southern regions of Saudi Arabia for an aggregate consideration of USD40 mm, but had not mentioned their names. For the first acquired hospital , NMC agreed to acquire a 60% stake in a new 100-bed hospital in the southern KSA city of Najran. The hospital initiated outpatient operations in late 2016 and commenced in-patient services in 1Q17, the acquisition is expected to close later this year. For the second hospital, NMC has agreed to fully acquire a 60-bed hospital in the northwestern KSA city of Ha'il, which began outpatient operations in 1991, plans are under way to utilise existing land to increase capacity to greater than 100 beds, the acquisition is expected to close later this year. Moreover, NMC announced a greenfield project in Al Khobar with a projected capacity of 170 acute care beds. The facility is expected to be operational in 1H19.
