Mobile operators refuse to give Telecom Egypt discounts on national roaming rates; Telecom regulator ignores mobile operators’ requests
Mobile network operators (MNOs) have refused to offer Telecom Egypt (TE) [ETEL.CA] discounts on national roaming rates as the company requests to utilise the MNOs’ 2G and 3G networks, according to unnamed sources. MNOs have set a minimum for what TE has to pay. However, the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) will take over the pricing mechanism if the operators do not reach a final agreement within two months. In related news, NTRA has ignored the MNOs’ requests to increase the offered spectrum and to be able to pay the licence cost in instalments. MNOs had objected to six clauses in the 4G draft, chief of which is the low amount of spectrum offered and the licence payment terms. Telecom Egypt: EGP9.99 as of 04 September 2016, Rating: Neutral, FV: EGP10.25 per share, MCap: USD1,920mn, ETEL EY / ETEL.CA
