Mobile network operators (MNOs) have announced a 10% increase in the price of mobile recharge cards, according to Amr El Monaier, Deputy Finance Minister in a call with CBC. 6% of the 10% increase will be directed towards the value added tax (VAT), while the balance (4%) would be in the form of additional airtime to consumers. This comes following yesterday’s news on the failure of MNOs and representatives from the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the Ministry of Finance to reach a decision on how the VAT would be implemented on mobile recharge cards.
