Ministry of Electricity will not postpone coal-fired power projects in the 2017-22 plan
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy will exclude coal-fired power plants and transmission and distribution projects from the government’s recent decision to delay power generation projects included in the 2017-22 plan to the 2022-27 plan, according to sources speaking to Al Mal. The sources added that the rationale behind proceeding with the coal-fired plants (such as Hamraween, and Al Nowais) is that their construction takes seven years, in addition to the bidding process. The Dayrout power plant will not be delayed as well as it will be contracted through Build Own Operate “BOO”, where the land will be awarded through usufruct for 25 years and the government will sign PPA with the awarded company. Currently, Saudi’s Acwa Power is the only bidder for the 2,250 MW project. (Al Mal)
