March passenger car sales continue to weaken for eighth consecutive month, -29% Y-o-Y, increase 6% M-o-M
The Automotive Marketing Information Council (AMIC) reported a c29% Y-o-Y decline in passenger car sales to 12,230 vehicles in March 2016 (+c7% M-o-M). This marks the eighth consecutive monthly Y-o-Y decline in passenger car sales, as FX shortages remain a key market challenge – YTD passenger car sales fell 32%. Contrastingly, GB Auto’s (AUTO.CA) combined passenger car sales volumes (Hyundai, Geely, Chery and Mazda) increased c19% Y-o-Y in March to 4,753. Meanwhile, the company’s passenger car market share increased to 38.9% in March 2016 compared to 23.2% a year ago, driven mainly by the addition of Chery to the company’s representations (sold 941 units in March) and a slight c2% increase in Hyundai volumes, as Geely and Mazda both saw Y-o-Y declines. Total automotive market sales volume fell c30% Y-o-Y, reaching 17,737 units during March, with trucks declining 37% and buses by c28%. (AMIC Egypt)
