Lafarge is looking to set up a Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF)  plant for EUR9mn by 3Q17 in Egypt, according to Hussein Mansi, country CEO at the firm. The company already has one RDF facility, under Lafarge Ecocem, that produces renewable energy used, in addition to coal at its cement plant. The new plant will cover an area of 45k sqm, that will extend from its existing facility in Al Ain Al Sukhna with a targeted capacity of 300,000 tonnes of agricultural and household waste annually (equivalent to 100,000 tonnes of coal). The move comes as part of the company’s plan to expand its RDF activities in Egypt. (Al Borsa)
