According to Okaz newspaper, unnamed sources have reported that Saudi Arabian Health Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah received directives to put the healthcare sector privatisation programme on hold until further notice. The directives were issued because of the unclear procedures set by the Ministry’s committees. The Ministry staff was ordered to suspend the implementation of the programme. Saudi Arabia is aiming to expand privatisation of government services as part of its National Transformation Plan 2020 by boosting the private sector contribution to the healthcare sector’s expenditures to 35% from 25%.
