Jobs at risk as payment delays bite construction sector
With growing wait for their invoices to be paid, businesses in Oman’s construction sector are hit so hard that many companies may go insolvent. From an average wait for 60 days till a few years back, the delay has now increased to more than 150 days. “The delay adds to the woes of the construction sector, which has been among the hardest hit by the oil price fall”, said Shahswar al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Society of Contractors (OSC). he said that the issue has already been brought to the notice of the Finance Ministry, which is making all-out efforts to make payments as early as possible.
